In Honor of Washington

I am making some headway on getting quilts finished!! I got the rest of the binding sewn and label added yesterday and I am really happy with it. I have never designed a quilt that I've liked until now!! Of course, the wonderful fabrics I used does help quite a bit.  I kept the quilting fairly simple because I wanted President Washington to steal the show and the quilting to play a back up role.
The back is pieced with many pieces of patriotic toile, the Declaration of Independence and the Martha Washington star. (we always know there is a good woman backing a great man)
Here is a lovely piece my friend Jill gave me. If I remember right she said it was an older one of Mary Koval's.  I wish I had more.

I'm also adding borders to another quilt so that means another top finished soon!! Woo-Hoo!!

I love George, almost as much as Abe.
You did a beautiful job with the design. It all goes together so beautifully - you must be thrilled!
I love that GW fabric and have plans to use it as a border soon - isn't it the best?
The back piecing is wonderful, I'm using the D.o.I on the back of Abe quilt, although I will be mixing time periods - right? lol

  6. Beautiful quilt! Love the backing you pieced! A question. Is your new backdrop on your header a reproduction of the Barbara Buchner quilt?? Is it a quilt pattern somewhere? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

  21. I'll join the parade of curious folk and ask about the quilt in your header. Is it one you made? Colors look right for Nearly Insane, but I don't think the blocks are right.

Your Geo W quilt is impressive. And it's good to know that once again, Martha is standing behind her man.

  22. Oh, I love your George! I have a soft spot for him (I live on Washington St.) Just a great quilt, Lori.
I recall that the backing fabric was Lady Liberty, and have regretted that none of it ever went home with me:( It's perfect here.

  31. I love your quilt! The Washington panel has an aged look to it. With your medallion setting it's hard to put an age to this quilt. Just wonderful! :)

  35. Wow, you designed a genuine tribute to Mr. Washington! I'm always so amazed by how well medallion quilts fit together. One of these days I vow to attempt one. Have a few beautiful appliqued blocks that I would love to use as a centerpiece block. Your quilt is wonderful and so inspiring! Congrats on your finish.

  36. I never tired of patriotic quilts, especially with bits of history, antique quilt blocks, and of COURSE there was a good woman behind that man.

  37. I think you and George have it it off well. You did good design work on this piece. And the pieced backing fits right into the theme.

  38. I don't know how I missed this post before now, but wow, I love your George W quilt! I have yardage of that Mary Koval brown toile that I'm waiting for the right inspiration to cut into it. I'm glad you put your little bit of it to good use!
