It's Friday!

I'm not so sure this fits this weeks Stars in  A time Warp (lapis blue) but it will do.

My instagram feed this week. As you can see from the top photos I've been sewing and will have a better post about it on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Weekend Getaway and Quilt Show

It's been quite a couple of weeks,  so after getting my mom back into her apartment from the hospital and nursing home stay, Cory and I got away for the weekend.

First up was an outdoor concert. Summer fairs are a great place to see live concerts from classic bands. We saw 38 Special. It was a gorgeous summer evening and enjoyed our time away not thinking about the stresses of the day.

The next day we made our way to the Coburg quilt show.

It was fun to see several of Bonnie's quilts hanging.

Here is Vortex, patterned by Dawn.

Was fun to see this one in person and not just online. It was spunky and so pretty!
This was one of my favorites, but only after reading the tag. (below) What a hoot!
This one caught my eye as well, called African Fire Flower

I had a lovely chat with the talented Marsha McCloskey, who was vending there. If you don't know who she is, I'll say she is the master of the Feathered Star pattern!!

After that we got to spend a little time at the Oregon Coast before heading back to reality on Sunday. Thanks for coming along with me!

Happy Wednesday.

PS, I'm dreadfully behind on blog reading. I've been catching up but only commenting sporadically. I'm not ignoring you!

Quilters are the Best! Dresses for Bolivia .. Part 2

Thank you for the overwhelming response to "Make a dress for Bolivia" blog post.
I posted that, got my mom settled in her room, and promptly left town for a few days away with hubby! I haven't had a chance to test any of the links but have looked at all of them. Feel free to choose one and make it your way.

I looked for cute pillowcases at a couple of thrift stores and they were NOT pretty like shown in this photo. Use a pillowcase, or extra yardage you have in your stash. My plan is take start this week. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
PS, I'll be taking each and every dress with me to Bolivia. I know quilters are a generous bunch and I'm prepared!

Please remind those making the dresses that sturdy fabric, well sewn seams and big pockets make these dresses more useful.

Pillowcase Dresses for Bolivia

These adorable little girls and cute pinafores are residing in the mountains of Guatemala. I'm considering taking some with me to Bolivia but cannot make them all myself.
Here's where you come in.
I'm looking for a simple pattern. I've found several online, but which one is the easiest?  I haven't had time to look this week, but maybe you have and know the answer. Please leave a link in the comment section or send me an email.

Secondly, who would be willing to help make one or two? The more I was reading about the little "pillowcase" dresses I realized it was so much more than clothing for them.

“We’re not just sending dresses, we’re sending HOPE!”

"Little girls are often left to be the primary care givers of their young siblings. It is our hope that in delivering dresses to these young girls, that a seed will be planted in their hearts, in the name of Jesus, that they are worthy."

If enough of you would like to participate then we shall!  I'll be heading to Bolivia the end of October and I KNOW there will be many poor people who need hope. Wouldn't it be great to have a little part in that?

Let me know what you think. Happy weekend.

Sisters Quilt Show- Vintage Quilts

Now that my favorite "Antique Quilts for Sale" booth is no longer a vendor at Sisters during the show I saw a few more hanging that were for sale. By the time I got to them, they had SOLD! Fun to look at though. I don't have any new sewing to show you today so enjoy these lovely and humble quilts.
What's not to love about double pink, poison green and chrome yellow?!
At first glance these all appear to be the same block. Look again!
I adore how these stars sparkle against the blue, somewhat faded and humble background.

A simple 25 patch on point looks more complicated.

This cowboy quilt was not for sale, but one made by the grandma of the owner. Her sister had gotten a cowgirl quilt. I absolutely love this one!

I hope to be back Friday with some completed sewing. Have a wonderful week.

Friendship Ring

I was asked to work with P & B fabric again. P & B have started a reproduction division called Washington Street Studio.  The line I am working with is called Friendship Ring.
My photo does not do this line by Evonne Cook justice. I have a plan and started cutting this weekend while hanging out at with my mom. I'm going to start sewing this week. (I may have to bring my sewing machine to my moms! lol)
To get a more accurate view of this beautiful line look HERE.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Sisters Finale

I'm sure you can see lots of photos of the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, but I wanted to share one more post with you.
My second favorite quilt of the show.  Crown of Flowers by Joanne Myers. All hand appliqued and quilted. It is amazing!
Is that quilting amazing or what?!
This was another quilt I'd love to have. Made by the owner's grandma in the 1950's it was called Mother Goose, but the embroidery looks more like Brothers Grimm to me!

I posted this on Instagram and figured out the "rhyme." What a hoot!
For those of you who have asked:
Ding, dong, bell,

Pussy’s in the well.
Who put her in?
Little Johnny Flynn.
Who pulled her out?
Little Tommy Stout.
What a naughty boy was that,
To try to drown poor pussy cat,
Who ne’er did him any harm,
But killed all the mice in the farmer's barn.

I thought this was such an effective way to use a toile print.

A friend had brought that toile back from Paris for her. It is so gorgeous!

This is an early quilt by Jean Wells, owner of the Stitchin Post, founder of the Sisters Quilt Show.

Here are some fun shots from around town.

Here's my two stars in a time warp blocks.
   Pillar prints

Drab yellow or quercitron. The blocks is not this bright in real life.
My Instagram feed for this week.

Love to you all! Have a great weekend.

Gee's Bend Quiltmakers

Some of the quilters from Gee's Bend, Alabama were at the quilt show this year. This was their third visit during quilt show week and they are wonderful and joyous women.  If you do not know about the Gee's Bend Quilts or quilt makers then read this link HERE. (It is a good link even if you know who they are)

Here were some of their improvisational quilts. Modern
 Traditional
 Utility
Graphic
 Humble

A little of "all of the above descriptions"

Postal Shirt Quilt

I don't see anything wrong with this. I have a few that look pretty similar.

I ran into them several times on quilt show day and spoke with them. but did NOT take a photo. (I sure thought I did) This one is borrowed from Sisters Outdoor Quiltshow facebook page.

It is a fun experience to say you've seen their quilts and met these ladies.

I hope you enjoy them too!

From the Mountains of Guatemala

No quilts on my blog today. My angel, Francisco, has purchased and made a delivery of food to our shoe shine boy and his family. If you have no clue what I'm referring to, then check out this post HERE and HERE. We can make a difference in other people's lives, near or far!

I can't read Spanish, but who can mistake the box of Kellogg's frosted flakes?! I thought it was great that my Angel would splurge on something like this. I'm sure they have never eaten it before. I'm not even sure they would have milk, but who needs milk to enjoy frosted flakes?!
Francisco went up after work and used the car lights to unload and snap a few photos. Jaime's dad whispered to Francisco, with tears in his eyes, that it was such a blessing  and a surprise to receive these groceries as he wasn't sure how he was going to feed his family this week.

Many of you sent me money to help this family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. God Bless you!!

My Favorite Quilt from the Sisters Show

This quilt was made by Sarah Fielke and is called A Wing and a Prayer. It was hanging on the outside "wall" of the teachers tent so the quilts looked see-through.  But you get an idea of what a fantastic quilt this is.

I found this online and has the information about it.

This and the next one were also done by Sarah.

I thought the tongues on the border were so unique!

June Jaeger (Jean Well's sister) did this amazing quilt.
What a way to use stripes! Huge pieces too, but so fun!
This beauty was made by Anna of Woolie Mammoth Blog. It was amazing! Nice job Anna!!
I told my friend I was going to meet her outside the tent and who should I see when heading out? The maker of my favorite quilt at the show, Sarah, Sue Spargo and Alex Anderson. I did tell Sarah that her quilt was my fav. What designer doesn't like to hear that?

I'll show you a few of my favorites later this week.
