Quiltworks Exhibit

Unfortunately I haven't made it to a First Friday event at Quiltworks all summer. But I asked Randy if we could meet here before lunch because I wanted to see the quilts.  Ruth Golden Ingham, talented quilter from Black Butte Ranch, was the featured quilter. She lived in Saudi Arabia for 16 years and has traveled extensively. The quilts she shred here are all inspired by those travels.

This one was inspired by a fire that came very close to her home a few years ago.
The group exhibit was from the Redding Sew-ciety guild from CA.  depicting CA state parks. The quilts are nothing short of amazing and I didn't mind seeing them again. (I saw them at a quilt show in Portland previously)

These are just a small sampling of quilts from the exhibit. If you are ever in Bend I'd encourage you to stop by and check out the quilts on display at Quiltworks.

Have a wonderful week!

House Party

I know the setting I'd like these to be, but I do not have a pattern. I sashed them first with 1 1/2" strips. Then I needed to add the tan to the top of some blocks in a row to make them even with the taller blocks. (each row is not the same height, though)

Then I needed to add to the sides to make them the same length, then I added borders to the top, bottom and sides.
I just noticed that this black strip is supposed to go all the way across the top.
Here's the model I am using. i had a blast taking a class from Tonye and making the houses, but she only had a photo, no directions, so I'm winging it.
Here's my top roof part. It almost seems easier to applique this block down.
A few weeks ago you saw a pile of fabrics I was choosing from for the fall quiltalong. Well, this is what I chose. Very amoeba-ish. I love it! It is more of a golden cheddar than true cheddar. Will you be ready to start in 2 weeks?

Instagram feed for the week. The photo of my mom and her friend at the Luau party was text to me from the workers while I was on my way to go camping. She was having fun.

Have an excellent weekend.

Stars and Dresses

Just in time for today's Stars in a Time Warp.
 Toile
The fabric is a bit washed out in the photo but I was going for the dun color in the light. Faded synthetic dyes was last weeks. Looks like trailing vines too!
 Adorable dresses in a row.....
    Thank you Synthia, Carline, Martha.......
Betsy and Joan! The dresses are amazing and will make some little girls happy. Thank You from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you to those who have sent money as well. It is all going to help the poor of the poor! Please don't feel any pressure to send money when you send dresses though.

I've been under tremendous stresses with my mom's situation. Hospice was a nightmare and after 6 weeks of ineptitude I was able to change to a different hospice. I leave for France and the European Patchwork in Alsace in 17 days and didn't want to be fretting and worrying about her care the whole time. I still may worry a bit but not as much. Thank you all for your kind and encouraging words.

Happy Wednesday!

A Simple Monday Post

After the little doll quilt swap this spring, Wendy, The Constant Quilter, sent me a cute little kit to make this quilt, similar to the one she made her swap partner.

I finished the binding while out camping and thought I'd do a photo shoot. My kids were giving me a hard time about it!

It's a humble little quilt, but I love it!
What a great center!! Thank you Wendy!

Quilt Show part 2

Thank you all for your kind comments and generosity is giving in various ways. I've been dealing with some unpleasant things dealing my mom (hope to get it squared away soon) and have been extra slack at emailing you back on comments. Just know I read and treasure every comment left.
I haven't done much sewing so I thought I'd show a few more quilts from the show.

How cool is this?! Miners. One of my favorites that wasn't a red and white quilt.
How about this one? Wow! How'd they do that?!
I absolutely adore these vintage photos on the vintage sacks.
Ahhhh, so precious!!
Here's a few more red and white quilts from the special exhibit.

My instagram feed this week.

Have a wonderful weekend dear friends.

Whimsical Houses

These wonderful hand appliqued blocks have been tucked away for some time. I started them in a class with Tonye Belinda Phillips. We are lucky to have her talent in Central Oregon. I had patterns for the houses but not a setting, which I am working on.

I was offered a wonderful opportunity recently and it spurred me to action on this UFO.

See this awesome bird fabric? I was contacted by Joan at Vibes and Scribes in Cork City, Ireland about helping to spread the word about their wonderful quilt fabric they have been expanding in their store.  I encourage you to check it out.
I chose this sweet fabric called Birds of a Feather.  Can you believe the shipping from Ireland was only $8.85 up to 1 kg? I think it is extremely reasonable. You may want to check out their facebook page too.  Thank you Joan. She has been wonderfully patient since my mom's hospitalization and transition to home.
Enjoy the rest of the blocks.

Thank you to those who have donated to my "causes". It means so much to me.

Have a terrific day!

Charitable Opportunites

I know we are surrounded these days by many people/organizations looking for contributions. I also know I like to know about different areas that are dear to my friends, so here it is, from me.
Xela, Guatemala, November 2014

As you may or may not know I went to Guatemala last fall and this fall I am heading to Bolivia with the same organization, doing the same program. You can read about it HERE.  I am a little short of my fundraising goal, so if you'd like to give you can do so  at THIS LINK.  If you choose to give online please use the drop down box "Bolivia Serve Team" and put my name Lori DeJarnatt in the comments section. You can also mail me a check, made out to Mike Silva International, and I'll get it to them. (my mailing address can be found by clicking Dresses for Bolivia to the right of this post.) Either of these ways will be 100% tax deductible.  Any money collected above and beyond what I need will be going to 2 well projects, one will provide clean drinking water to a school of 460 children, and another well project for a community of 350 families and a school, of 200 children. It is hard to imagine not having fresh water easily accessible.
Several of you have given me money for the cause. I'll be bringing school supplies, hygiene items, Bibles, treats, and the pillowcase dresses, so if you'd like to donate for these items that would make me happy as well.

Many of you donated to Jaime and his family. We have given them Christmas gifts, food, shoes, clothing and school supplies.  This little guy is 11 yo and shines shoes to help support his large family. I have wired the last of the money I collected but would still like to continue to bless this family with love and gifts from USA. You can read about him HERE.  If you'd like to donate to Jaime and his family, please send me a check or transfer  through paypal. Yes, there is a bit of trust involved, but so far I have been able to share photos with you. I cannot imagine the poverty that surrounds this large family. We cannot do a lot, but we can do something. Thank you to those who have given.

Here are more dresses for Bolivia! Thank you Beth, Nancy, Rita and Laurie. I know more will start rolling in and I will not be able to thank everyone individually, so please look here for your dresses and thank you. You can find my mailing address on the right sidebar under Dresses for Bolivia.  If you want to know more click HERE.

Last, but certainly not least, I heard about Faith Seeds while on my trip to Guatemala.  It is an amazing ministry where the founder, Gaby Munoz, works with garbage dump families, with education and food. These are the poorest of the poor and feeding your family is more important than education.  Gaby is trying to change that, one child at a time. I was able to meet this wonderful woman in Sisters, Oregon this past spring. I feel honored to know her! You can sponsor a child, and read about FAITH SEEDS here. 100% of your donation goes straight to Guatemala when you donate to St Paul's Lutheran Church in Ohio.  Please click on Xela Faith Seeds sponsor.

I hope I've stirred your heart in one way or the other to help your fellow mankind. I realize more than ever that we enter this world with nothing and we leave with nothing.
Thank you for your kindness and for making the world a little better place.
XOXO

Quilt! Knit! Stitch! Portland Show

Quilts, Inc. has their second yearly show in Portland and I got to attend yesterday. They are the same company that puts on the really big show in Houston. I was thrilled to see so many award winning quilts just a few short hours from my hometown!
And here is Barb Black's Just Takes Two award winning  quilt. It was so stunning in person! I loved hearing about the process of how it became the commemorative quilt for Houston on the jubilee year!
I got to hear that story from none other than Barb herself! (She hand delivered 2 dresses for Bolivia! Thanks Barb!!)
So they had a special exhibit- Ruby Jubilee. I never get tired of seeing red and white classic quilts! So many of these were inspired by the Infinite Variety Exhibit in NYC. I still feel so fortunate to have seen that myself!

And, there were antique red and  white classics. Isn't this feathered star outstanding?!!!
Love the half blocks at the top and bottom. It had quarter blocks on the corners.
I really liked the way the quilting went all directions.
Wonderful signature block from Ohio. 1852, I believe

The whole quilt.

The sign of a great quilt? I don't remember if this one was old or new. :) I'm pretty sure it was newly made.
This one was all over the place. Humble and crazy at the same time!

New quilt, but thought the machine quilting was fabulous and unique.
Love, Love, Love...

Triple Irish chain with these wonky, humble fun fans on the border!!

That was a taste of my Thursday.
Here's my weekly Instagram feed.

Have a wonderful weekend.
