Aurora Quilt Show Part 2

One quilt really caught my eye this year at the quilt show.

It was one of the more humble quilts being displayed.

And this was the back of it!
I always enjoy the herb garden.
Architectural selvage is one huge space we like to wonder through.
On our way home we drove by this dahlia farm and I had to snap a photo. Where I live in Zone 5 dahlias need to be dug up every year in winter.

I saw a sign for a historic ferry so we went to take a look.
Not only was it interesting ferry holding a whopping 4-6 cars, it was a beautiful day on the river!!

Love to you all!

Aurora Book Sale

Ah, okay, this isn't a book, but does anybody else remembering wearing dresses like this in grade school? No, I didn't purchase it.

The overflow of books ended up in the barn. Wow! I pulled up a chair and began browsing,

Below is a "few" purchases. Since I'm trying to get this post ready to publish while I'm gone I am not going to try and figure out why some photos are upside down! It does us good to stretch our neck anyway, right?

 Oldies but goodies!

Love to enhance the home library on a budget!!

"New Beginnings" Aurora Colony Quilt Show

I made it out to the Aurora Quilt Show two weeks ago but have been saving the blog post for when I was gone. It is always one of my favorites. This year's theme was New Beginnings and they had a display of antique log cabin quilts, since that was usually the first thing you needed when you headed west. I hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

I loved that this one was not symmetrical! Rows do not always have to come out even!! They were trying to make a pattern with the dark blue in the center, but it didn't quite come out perfect. (I absolutely love that humbleness!)

What's not to love about prairie points?
And look at the awesome florescent paisleys!
My favorite thing about this quilt was the border.
Red checked on the right, tan stripes on the bottom.
Yellow checks on the left and tan stripes on the top. Too stinkin' cute!

The ties! Oh my goodness- Love them!
What a cool setting! I think it looks very modern.

A hand quilting demonstration by a sweet lady.
And a  primitive stitched log cabin.

I saw recently that quilt appraiser and designer Sandra Starley wrote an article on log cabin quilts that you may be interested in seeing HERE

Happy Monday!

Wool Applique

I've been following Rebekah Smith for a little while and love her wool applique. This book was published recently and try as I might to win one on a blog hop, sadly I never did.

But happily I purchased it anyway! I don't purchase a lot of new books because, really, there isn't a lot new in quilting. I wanted a simple, small piece of handwork to take on my trip to Bolivia so I chose one from this book.
It has a bit of embroidery too, which I love.
Darn thing flipped on me. I've got a few stitches in it. As you can see my favorite method of holding the pieces to the background is staples. Works like a charm for me.  I really, really like this piece. Rebekah is a very talented designer.

Here's my instagram feed for the week. If wi-fi is fairly reliable in Bolivia I'll be posting photos on Instagram next week. Hopefully I'll get a few on my Humble Quilts facebook page. It's hard to know.

We've got 42 Country Roads links! Be sure to visit the links and leave comments for one another!!

I'll be thinking of you all as I pass out dresses!! XOXO

Country Roads Linky Party-

If you've sewed along with Humble Quilts before you know the linky party comes after the sewalong. Today is the day. Please add the link to your specific blog pot, not just your blog. If you do not have a blog, please send me a photo and I'll add your quilt as a link.

I found this book recently and since so many of us make little quilts I thought it would make a good addition to the giveaway.

Because our predominate color in Country Roads is cheddar/gold this is what I've come up with out of my stash.

If you add your link or send me a photo of your Country Roads you are automatically entered to win!

The winner is Number 37! Thanks for sewing along everybody!!

Infinite Variety: Red and White Quilts Revisited

The quilt show of amazing proportions!
Even if you weren't there, who can forget it?

I was there in March 2011 with my daughter (our only other major vacation together as adults) and she met my quilt friends and we all attended the show. It was amazing. It was powerful! it was beautiful and unforgettable.

We get another chance to re-live it through this awesome book put out by the American Folk Art Museum.
Brings me right back to the Armory in NYC!

Our Fat her............. I'm a little slow! LOL I had a tough time reading this one from across the room.

Here's my instagram feed for this week.

Have a wonderful weekend!
